Ethan’s Story

Overview

Produced for the 2023 OKDHS DDS Conference, this project highlights Ethan, a nationally recognized Special Olympian. The goal was to showcase how Oklahoma’s empowerment efforts enable individuals with developmental disabilities to live their best lives. The film illustrates the profound personal and athletic success made possible through dedicated state support and specialized therapeutic programs.

Challenge

The production needed to visually communicate the impact of Effective Teaching & Learning (ETL) support, which strengthened Ethan’s communication and family relationships. Capturing high-performance athletic footage across diverse environments — including tracks and Olympic-sized pools — required significant technical agility. The team had to balance intimate family moments with the high-intensity energy of a national athlete.

Strategy & Approach

We employed a documentary-style narrative filmed across various locations, including Ethan’s home, his neighborhood, and a local track. The tone was “day-in-the-life,” focusing on his growth and athletic discipline. By capturing Ethan in his element, the film highlights how specialized coaching and therapeutic support translate into tangible success on a national stage.

Outcomes

This award-winning video served as a cornerstone of the OKDHS DDS conference, reaching hundreds of attendees. It successfully celebrated the effectiveness of ETL therapeutic support and inspired stakeholders by showing Ethan’s compelling journey. The project’s technical excellence — particularly the underwater cinematography — set a high bar for mission-driven content.
