Two Eras, One Stage: Merging Ancient & Modern

Time travel isn’t possible. But instantly hopping between different epochs can be utterly seamless on the right virtual production stage. As thousands converged in Oklahoma City to commemorate the billion-download milestone of the YouVersion Bible App, One Set Studio virtually transported visitors from ancient Israel straight into a modern coffee shop.
Collaborating with local virtual and practical art department creatives, we were able to navigate tight deadlines and bring together two worlds — and two eras. Another challenge was leveraging render machines to run two different Unreal Engine projects at the same time and fade between them to seamlessly transition talent from Biblical and contemporary settings.
Using our 40′ x 13′ LED wall and Unreal Engine environments, we staged a single continuous shot bridging two eras: a modern coffee shop and the empty tomb of ancient Israel. As a man reads John 20 on the YouVersion app, Mary Magdalene passes through the modern world and leads him into the ancient scene — smoothly transitioning between the rendered environments.
The scene illustrated how virtual production can move audiences across time and place in a single shot, blending narrative storytelling with cutting-edge technology.
